User story #4352
closedsetting permissions using "Download a file from the shared folder" directive should not be mandatory
Description
If you use the "Download a file from the shared folder" directive, you have to set permissions. This is a problem when copying a folder containing files and subfolders with different permissions :
- All files and subfolders will have the same permissions ;
- Or you need to specify permissions for each files and subfolders.

Yvan, another issue was openend and fix about that : #4368.
I reject this issue as it duplicates #4368 and this one contains the fix!
The fix will be available in next releases (2.6.10, 2.7.7, 2.8.2, 2.9.2) or nightlies
Really thank you!
Actually, I disagree with this. Issue #4368 is not the same as this. Issue #4368 sets a default value for perms (mode 0640) so that by default permissions don't get set to none (mode 0000).
As I understand this issue would be resolved by adding an option to the Technique to preserve permissions as they are on the file system. Reopening.
Yvan, please let me know if I have misunderstood.

You're right Vincent,
My problem is that I want to be able not to change permissions of my files.
Thanks everybody,
Yvan Masson

Sorry I misunderstood the other issue, they are not linked at all and will need to be fixed.

I'm going to keep this one and close #3365 as duplicate, as here, the needs for the use case are much clearer.
So, it seems that we could have a checkbox with "force permissions", and if uncheked keep the existing perms.

I even wonder if it's not a bug, because actually, we can't keep rights with the actual Technique.
What do you think, people (Benoit being the first people:)

I think this is still a new feature since you can already choose the file rights with current technique, and current technique works as is.
Moreover, the rudder server has no reason to have the same access control and user definition as other nodes. So it's probably not the best idea to have the same permission on downloaded files, unless (maybe) it is a network shared folder (NFS or CIFS).

This won’t be added to that technique, please use the technique editor for that. If you are missing some capabilities in it, please open a ticket for that need.
