Hi Team,
After upgrading from rudder 5.0.20 to 6.1.9 on SLES12 SP4 we performed the rudder server upgrade-techniques -o command which failed with the below output:

After that we just performed a git add/commit, but please help me to understand the output, and let us know, whether the first errors can be ignored and we need just retry the command + git add/commit. What was the root cause for those exceptions? It there a problem maybe from our side?

Hello,
Thanks for reporting.
The root cause is hard to understand. JGit (the java lib we use for git) says that it didn't succeed in doing the commit, but nothing else, which is not helpfull. I suspect there is something that it didn't like with you git repository, but I can't tell much.
Your workaround action (git add + git commit) seems correct to me.
Still, we need to check that whatever internal repo state was breaking jgit is now ok. Can you please try to do a modification in a configuration element (for example, try create an empty rule) and see if you get an error in /var/log/rudder/webapp/2021_02_10.stderrout.log ?

Other modification were reported to work afterward. We are unable to reproduce that one.
We are going to try to make the message more explicit (details about exception) in case it happens again.

We where able to identify the root cause of that problem, and it is addressed in #18983. I'm closing that ticket as "resolved" (which it will actually be only once the other ticket correction is merged).
