Question #3393
closedBest way to upgrade techniques
Added by Dennis Cabooter over 11 years ago. Updated almost 10 years ago.
Description
My Rudder server is on Ubuntu 12.04. Yesterday I only upgraded the rudder-techniques packages to match the nightly build. What is the best practice to upgrade only the techniques without upgrading everything. Maybe using git? If so, how can I accomplish this? In my opinion the manual is not very clear about this.

You are right, this part of the documentation should be improved.
Basically, yes you must do it via git, the quick'n'dirty way which is:
cd /var/rudder/configuration-repository/techniques cp -a /opt/rudder/share/techniques/* . git add . git commit -m "Dennis: Upgrade the Rudder Techniques"
And then, in the Rudder interface, in the "Configuration Policy -> Techniques" pane, click on the big "Reload" button.
This is to be done ONLY if you did not customize any technique in the standard Rudder tree, if not please tell me the ones you did modify so I can adapt the commands.
I will also update the documentation with this procedure so there is no confusion anymore.
