User story #4900
closedEase rudder-agent installation by setting default values
Description
We want to be able to install Rudder agent in a "zeroconf" way, with sane defaults and possible command line overrides.
Some ideas for Rudder server IP:
- the DNS configuration of the node can be considered to include the good domain (managed by the sysadmin)
- so we can use "rudder" for default server name/ip
- which is resolved in rudder.foo.bar.com

- Subject changed from Make Rudder agent install "zeroconf" to Make a fully unnattended Rudder agent installation possible

As a plus we can add the rudder server name as as configuration parameter in debian so that it can be used with preseed.

Indeed, but let's start simple: just set "rudder" as the default server name.
