Description

The fix for #7761 has caused #7094 to come back for platforms that don't support "env -0".

As a reminder, "env -0" null-terminates "lines", so it's easier to match each individual environment variable. This can however be replicated to some extent using a construction like:

env | sed 's/^\([^=]\+\)=/\x00\1=/'

We should add this back so that #7094 is also fixed on those platforms that support just env and sed.
