I confirm, after a modification in the webapp, the /var/rudder/configuration-repository/.git/index file gets it's permissions changed

The permissions of the files is the same as the one of the generated promises : root:root 640

When Rudder makes a commit, Rudder commits as root, It seems that when root user make a commit, the .git/index file user and group are changed to root:root

(It's the same for the config file when using git config or files directly when using git add)

A workaround is to run those commands :

git config core.sharedRepository group # don't use the umask of the git index, but allow users from the group to make commit
chgrp myGroup /var/rudder/configuration-repository -R 
chmod g+rw /var/rudder/configuration-repository -R
chmod g+s `find /var/rudder/configuration-repository -type d`

This will put the group of /var/rudder/configuration-repository on all files (new or already existing) of that directory

Is this really a bug of Rudder? Do we really want to not change the group of configuration-repository ? or this is a user specific problem (and should be correctly documented (FAQ, doc ...)

If that's what we want this can be fixed in two places (not the chgrp command):

• In Rudder installation script
• In system techniques ? maybe in a special bundle of common only applied by the root server.
